As we didn't want to waste our leave, we decided to go to school by 8am and hopefully can go back to office before 9.30am. So once again woke up early and started our journey from Clementi to Sengkang. We walked straight to the office where the receptionist was busy handling a student's enquiry, then the Principal walked out from the office to greet us and led us to the registration hall! Wow! I was screaming in my heart...this is a good sign...i think confirm lah my girl will enroll to this school. So both of us walked in to the hall in our office attires stylishly (with wind blowing)
Station 1: Document verification and Queue number. Cleared - we have all the documents.
Station 2: Filling form. Wait..."your NRIC address is Clementi, we cannot register you..." "but we have our tenancy agreement as a proof" "sorry I just called HQ to check, we only follow NRIC's address." So how?
Police Station: Hubby suggested to go change our NRIC address at Neighbourhood Police station. When we stepped in the police station, an old couple were already at counter B making their scam sms & phone calls complaint (the uncle talked so loud, not that I want be 8). And there was a young chinese guy before us taking queue number. Our queue number was A001, so we thought it was gonna be quick. Immediately we got our queue number printed out, the young guy in front of us was already being attended to at counter A. But...i think maybe both also have complicated cases, we waited for 1hr 10minutes for our turn. The process of changing address was fast, showed the police our tenancy agreement, got the new address keyed in to system and printed on our NRIC...done in 5mins.
Second attempt at school
Station 1: cleared
Station 2: where we got stuck in the morning..now cleared with new address on our NRIC.
Station 3: system registration. "you are SPR? Honestly SPR no chance lah. This is a popular school! I am surprised my colleagues at station 1&2 didn't advise you. So do you still want to proceed?" my husband replied, "is it popular? We don't know. We want to come to this school is because of its walking distance to our house." then the lady repeated her sentences above 3 times and kept asking us, "you still want to proceed? But PR don't even have chance to ballot." we firmly told her yes...We want to proceed. (no...the school is not Nan Chiau. The school is popular but not VERY popular, even some of my colleagues have not heard of it). So finally we said 3 times of yes yes yes...she helped us to key in to the system. When she handed the reply slip to us, she said, "make sure you turn on your phone tomorrow, most probably I will call you to come in to withdraw if by end of today total citizens applied exceeds the vacancies."...... Well I truly respect the priority given to the citizens. As a working PR, I believe we do contribute to the development of the country, don't we deserve certain level of respect?
11am+ reached office. My concerned colleagues came to me and ask how did the registration go, so I shared the story above with them. Some of colleagues are experienced parents advised me that the station 3 lady was trying to be helpful and not being offensive, because if the school informed us earlier, we still have a chance to go for our 2nd or 3rd choice of schools before phase 2c closes on 1 Aug, 4.30pm. Otherwise as PR, we will have even slimmer chance in phase 2c supplementary and can wait for MOE to allocate which may end up with a very far away school. Ohh...this really hits me! I never thought of this, I thought the process is submit application, if not successful, apply again until I get in to the school I have shortlisted. Now only I realised that it is a very competitive game and you need to have a P1 strategy to win the game!
7pm till 12am - based on colleagues' advice...i kept refreshing the MOE pages to check on the number of applications of the schools.
